In case you missed Seattle, heeere's Washington

My friend Mez is getting on a bus to
Washington, D.C., on Saturday. I asked
him why, and he said with all this intensity: "Look, I
missed
Seattle. There's
no way I'm missing Washington."
I've seen people speak with that kind of unrestrained longing
before, but the
object of their affection was usually a muddy music festival
where Beck shares
a stage with the Beastie Boys, or a short-run New York play such
as The
Vagina
Monologues.

against the World Bank (WB) and International Monetary Fund
(IMF), locals are rockin’ steady and ready to roll over the WB
and IMF come April 16. They've organized a teach-in and an A16

web broadcast the streets of DC on April 15-17.

Blocking Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W. in
front of the World Bank Group's headquarters, two activists
representing an
international coalition of
environmental, human rights, religious, and social justice
organizations have locked themselves to the undercarriage of a
17-foot panel truck, emblazoned with the words, "WORLD BANK
PLUNDERS THE PLANET - NO
MORE $$$ FOR OIL, GAS AND MINING.

The idea was to scale the World Bank
Facade to display the banner. The World Bank or the Police had
placed Barbed Wire on the Support lines of the Auning on the
world Bank entrance to prevent. Although the Climbers could not
scale the facade, they were able to display the banner moentaraly
before locking themselves to the World Bank building.

Using the top of the truck as a
makeshift stage, Friends of the Earth US Executive Director Brent
Blackwelder and Ozone Action Executive Director John
Passacantando and Beka Econompolos are introducing a campaign
platform demanding that the World
Bank phase out its
financing of destructive oil, gas, and mining projects. The
platform details the ten most harmful impacts of such projects,
from environmental destruction to egregious human rights abuses.

Perhaps the greatest environmental
threat of the IMF/World Bank is the threat their policies pose to
marine eco-systems: Pulling all the fish from the sea in the
name of foreign exchange. India fought back and won.
