The Progressive Response | V2N11 | Part II:Imperialism in Globalization - "The following is the second part of a February 1998 essay by Alejandro Bendaña, director of the Centro de Estudios Internacionales in Managua. At the end of the first part of the essay, Bendaña enters into a discussion of the notion that the "G-7 is the real culprit" in shaping and maintaining the global capitalist system, and this second part continues that discussion. Bendaña’s contention that the critics of globalization miss the fundamental power dynamics—mainly U.S. imperialism—of the system of global capitalism has important implications for those, especially in the United States, who are involved in contesting global economic forces and multilateral institutions. The complete essay, along with reference notes, is available from CEI (cei@nicarao.apc.org.ni). It represents an update of the analysis presented in his book, Power Lines (Olive Branch Press, 1996)."
