Saturday Aug 13 saw the umteenth running of the annual Nictaux Canal Race. Beginning and ending where Hwy 10 crosses the canal at Nictaux Falls, just south of Middleton, the event was once again a well organized, enjoyable and challenging event with 10 boats participating.
After the event John and Christine Skaling hosted all participants at their New Albany farm where we feasted on Christine`s mouth watering home baking......subs with fresh baked buns loaded with farm raised free range chicken and deserts of cookies, squares; and plenty for seconds!!
On a racing matter it must be noted that the speed of the Lynch / Lewis Canoe was partially the result of an external force.......Tim was rushing to get home where a very much "Due" wife Michelle was waiting for their first baby to begin it s own race to freedom!! All racers felt this added help was permissible......and we can only wait to hear and see if the baby comes with a paddle!
This race, like all the others that NS and NB host are events that go beyond canoe racing; they are times of comradery, learning new techniques, experimenting with different strategies, making new friends......having a darn good time!! Thanks to Christine, John, family and friends for once again organizing this race; and thanks to the organizers of all our other races....it is you that keep the sport alive and give us week-end warriors a place to do what we like to do....Race Canoes !
